I will be taking part in an escalation league starting this month. Rather than play the Dark Angels I’ve been painting up for the last 9 months, I decided to do a hobby scramble and put together an Eldar list. Here are some progress pictures of a Spiritseer. The army will have a “ghost pirates in space” theme, so there will be a lot of Wraithguard units.
After painting several layers of gray, there just wasn’t enough contrast to really see anything on the model. I took some advice from an article on basing theory on From the Warp, a great painting blog. I decided to see if painting a very light color on the base would help make the models stand out, and ended up with a desert theme. Eldar are traditionally a very clean army, but for these I’m going with a very weathered look. I’m imagining an army ambushing their prey, sweeping over the dunes at twilight.
The spiritseer’s glowing stones were almost an accident. Sometimes you just start putting paint on your brush and the next thing you know, you’re sitting back and thinking “huh, that’s pretty cool”. I started off just going for a fading blue on the rune armor, and ended up with a pretty cool glowing effect, which I then replicated on the staff. Anyways, here are some progress pictures!
Update: I’ve also decided to enter The Independent Characters’ 2014 Hobby Progress Challenge. My thread is here.
